Yeast Infection or Vaginal Yeast Infection is a type of vaginal inflammation wherein irritation, itchiness, and discharge (thick, white, cheese-like, and odor-free) is involved. The condition is actually common and it is not considered as a sexually transmitted infection. It is caused by Candida, a fungus naturally present in the vagina. However, factors like antibiotic use, pregnancy, diabetes, and impaired immune system my cause overgrowth of the fungus. People usually deal with this with proper hygiene and anti-yeast creams. However, you could also try these natural home remedies for yeast infection.
Home Remedies for Yeast Infection:
Dip a tampon in plain yogurt containing live culture of Lactobacillus Acidophilus and insert into the vagina. Do this twice a day until symptoms clear up.
Tea Tree Oil
Tea tree oil contains a compound called terpinenol known to slow yeast growth. Make up a solution with equal parts of tea tree oil and rubbing alcohol. You could also dilute 4 to 5 drops of tea tree oil in 250 ml water. Apply this as a vaginal wash. Alternatively, place a few drops into a tampon and insert into vagina. Leave for 30 to 60 minutes until symptoms are reduced.
Apple cider vinegar helps restore the natural pH of the vaginal cavity. Dilute 1 teaspoon apple cider vinegar in 2 cups water and add 1 crushed clove of garlic. Steep for an hour then strain. Brush, dab affected areas or apply as vaginal wash.
A food preservative called Potassium sorbate is known to reduce itching and soreness of yeast infection. Mix 1 tablespoon in 1 cup water. Soak a tampon and insert into vagina. Leave for several hours.
To combat yeast infections, eat a clove of garlic 1 to 2 times a day at the onset of infection. You could also apply crushed garlic on the affected area and leave for 10 minutes.
Known anti-fungal herbs are Licorice, black walnut and goldenseal. Dried herbs can be used as tea and fresh herbs can be used as a cream or ointment.
Calm the itchiness of yeast infections with Chamomile. Make 2 cups of Chamomile tea, drink one and apply one as a vaginal wash.
Cultures in buttermilk are known to have beneficial effects on body systems. To prevent yeast infection, include two 8 fl oz (250 ml) glasses a day in your diet.
One of the little known home remedies for yeast infection is Boric Acid. Also called Borax powder, it can be used to battle yeast infections. Mix with water to form a paste and apply to affected areas.
Cranberry juice lowers the pH level of the urine that help makes the whole genital area more acidic. Use unsweetened juice because sugar aids yeast growth.
